Surveillance devices reports

We oversee the use of surveillance devices by Victorian law enforcement agencies to obtain evidence or information relating to a Commonwealth or State offence

Under the Surveillance Devices Act 1999 we provide independent oversight of the use of surveillance devices by the following 7 bodies, that can apply to the courts for warrants to use optical, listening, tracking and data surveillance devices:

  • Victoria Police
  • IBAC
  • Victorian Fisheries Authority
  • Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
  • Games Management Authority
  • Environment Protection Authority.

We conduct inspections of each body’s records. Our findings are presented in biannual reports that are provided to the responsible Minister and each House of Parliament.
